New Scoreboard at Memorial Field Thanks to Class of 1962’s Larry Beans

The school board voted unanimously on February 21 to accept a generous $125,000 donation from 1962 graduate Larry Beans and to approve the purchase and installation of a new scoreboard for Memorial Field. The gift was made through the SCASD Education Foundation and follows Beans’ $875,000 donation in 2021 for the Memorial Field renovations. The new press box was named in his honor and the concession stand was named for the Class of ’62.

Beans said he has fond memories of his State High experiences. He played football, basketball, and baseball for the Little Lions.

SCASD Finance and Operations Officer Randy Brown said, “The foundation has been pivotal, and we thank Mr. Beans and the foundation, their directors, and their executive director.”

  1. What a wonderful gift from a ’62 classmate. A memory: We were in Ms. Shingek’s Spanish class together where Larry’s class name was “frijoles”. My hat is off to Mr. Beans.
