The Judy and Pete Lysaker Journalism Support Fund
The Judy and Pete Lysaker Journalism Support Fund was created to help State High Publications students attend the annual Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) Spring Scholastic Convention, which includes students in all journalism programs (newspaper, yearbook, and broadcast).
CSPA’s Spring Scholastic Convention is a three-day conference-style national gathering of student editors and faculty advisers to newspapers, yearbooks, magazines, video productions, and online media held at Columbia University each spring. In the world’s media capital, delegates can choose from 350 or more sessions organized in seven sequences: newspaper, yearbook, magazine, online media, video/broadcasting, and law and ethics. State High Publications takes students in grades 9-12 to this incredible conference each year. During this conference, students participate in a learning experience like no other; They get opportunities to improve their skills on-site, rethink publishing strategies, and get inspired to take State High’s media game to the next level.
We consider sending students to CSPA’s Spring Scholastic Convention as one of the most significant investments in our journalism program.
Committed students in the Journalism Program who have financial need can inquire with the Journalism Fund Committee or complete The Judy and Pete Lysaker Journalism Support Fund online. Awards will be given based on need and/or merit as determined by the members of the Fund Committee.
The Fund Committee will be composed of current journalism teachers and advisors of the Journalism program: Samantha Corza, Hannah Shumsky, and Sarah Rito. The Committee will limit the expenditure to roughly $1000 each year.
These fund guidelines have been approved and are subject to the directives contained in the State College Area School District Education Foundation (SCASDEF) Policies and Procedures for Acceptance and Administration of Scholarship and General Use Funds.
