As the end of the Education Foundation’s fiscal year approaches, there’s still time to make an impact. The Mardi Lowry McDonough ’87 Student Opportunity Fund & Grant Program, the Education Foundation’s first fund, is growing, with teachers submitting more applications than ever to fund innovative projects, classroom equipment, and more.

The Education Foundation’s first and now flagship fund was originally called the Student Opportunity Fund and was later renamed in memory of SCASD educator and alumna, Mardi Lowry McDonough ’87. In the ten years since, countless students in all grades and at every school across the district have benefited from the generosity of thousands of donors whose contributions have been distributed swiftly and directly. These funds have enabled innovation inside and outside of classrooms and created new opportunities for students to thrive.
Why it matters now more than ever: The number of grant applications has increased significantly, with more than 100 requests totaling over $100,000 in the most recent cycle. You can turn their visions into reality with a gift. Make your gift now before the fiscal year ends on June 30 to set up our students for success in 2025-26.
Fueling the vision of educators, grants have enabled innovation inside and outside of classrooms and created new opportunities for students to thrive. Distributed in the fall and the spring every year, grants have funded nearly 150+ proposals submitted by teachers and administrators at every school across the district.
In total, nearly $225,000 has been awarded, thanks to the generosity of donors. Grants have funded everything from EMT exam applications to sensory items, from STEM equipment to a classroom care closet, and even the unified bocce team. Every project makes a direct impact on students.
