The State College Area School District Education Foundation (SCASDEF) is excited to announce that applications are available for the newly created Student Opportunity grants. We encourage all teachers and staff to apply as the SCASDEF has accumulated resources thanks to the generosity of donors in our community. The proposals will be evaluated by the SCASDEF Board with input from District administration. Also, we encourage you to express your passion for your project in the project narrative. The deadline for submitting a proposal is September 30, 2018.

Grant Details and Organization:

Grant Guidelines:

SCASDEF’s goal is to expand learning and extracurricular opportunities for students beyond what is possible with existing school budgets. Applications must meet the following requirements to be considered for funding:

  • A project can be funded only if there are no other revenues by which it can be financed in a timely manner by SCASD.
  • All projects must be approved by the building Principal and the appropriate supervisor prior to submission.
  • All proposals for technology enhancements must be reviewed by the Director of Technology before submittal. The building principal must verify this when completing the approval checklist.
  • Priority is given to student-centered (as opposed to teacher-training materials, for example) projects and non-consumable materials that will impact many students over a long period.

Scoring Criteria:

***Priority will be given to those submissions that demonstrate highest urgency of need.***

  • Impact/Need (25 points) - Each dollar of SCASDEF funds will be invested to give maximum educational impact, in terms of number of students served and depth and duration of impact. Projects reaching many students over longer time periods are favored.
  • Need/Creativity (15 points) – The project addresses a need in an extra-curricular or co-curricular program or demonstrates creativity in teaching the curriculum, or stimulates innovation and creativity by students.
  • Project Management (10 points) - The applicant must demonstrate an ability to manage the project effectively and must include clear indicators of success.
