State High's Teen Shale Network: An Unconventional ExtracurricularThe United States Postal Service has nothing on Hannah Good, Kacy Mann, Lena Nyblade and Maria Rodriguez Hertz.

So the mail gets delivered in snow, rain and heat. Big deal. The new State High graduates spent four years conducting valuable scientific research in all kinds of weather as part of the high school’s Teen Shale Network program.

Making Connections Through Music

Making Connections Through MusicEstablished in 2006, the Partners in Music program has been a significant part of the music education for fifth-grade students within SCASD. Providing an opportunity for the young instrumentalists to collaborate with students in the Penn State School of Music, Partners in Music offers both instruction and the chance to make music together. Since 2006, the partnership has grown to include three ensembles, two bands and a string orchestra, comprised of approximately 150 SCASD students each year.

Alum in Interior Design Offers Advice for Aspiring StudentsJen Hendrickson attended SCASD schools intermittently all throughout her childhood, before finally settling down in 7th grade and graduating from State High. It was there she met her husband. “Junior year in high school, we played badminton against each other and I thought he was cute, and a few weeks later we started dating, and we’ve been together ever since.”

Following college at Penn State, she started down a career path that would take her near and far, but finally led back to State College, where she’s developed a successful interior design business.
