The Arts Thrive at SCASD Schools

All May, talented State High seniors had their work on display at the Bellefonte Art Museum as part of the Class of 2016 Art Show. Artists from five local high schools were chosen to participate in the exhibit.

The SCASD chapter of the National Art Honor Society presented The Heart of State College, a silent art auction and showcase, on May 6 at the Makery on Calder Way.

The State College Jazz Festival celebrated its fortieth anniversary on May 13 with an appearance from the renowned Woody Herman Orchestra. The award-winning State High jazz band was joined by the SCASD middle schools along with other high school jazz bands in the region for a day of adjudication performances and legendary jazz music.

Middle School Students Host Mini-Thon

Students from Mount Nittany, Park Forest, and Delta Middle Schools recently came together at PFMS for Mini-THON.

Participants raised $60,115.72 for the Four Diamonds Fund to support pediatric cancer patients. Over the past eight years the event has raised $326,000. The event, modeled after the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, is not only a fundraiser but also a partnership between district middle schools.

Not Your Average Faire

Each year a group of students at the high school develop creativity, bolster historical knowledge, overcome age-group barriers, build lifelong friendships and social support networks, and find a place to feel at home. Members of the Renaissance Faire club plan an annual event that transports attendees back in time and benefits organizations like the Youth Service Bureau and State College Food Bank.

Advisors encourage the community to attend the Renaissance Faire this Sunday, May 22, on the field behind Welch Pool from 11:00-5:00.
